Bayern Munich couldn't have wished for a better start to the second half of the Bundesliga season after beating SV Hamburg 3-0 in the Olympic stadium on Friday. Bixente Lizarazu was given a warm welcome despite the icy conditions on his return to Bavaria. He played more than 150 games for Bayern between 1997 and 2004. Bayern, without the suspended Michael Ballack, took the lead in the 21st minute. Goalkeeper Martin Pieckenhagen failed to claim Hasan Salihamidzic's free kick, allowing Claudio Pizarro to climb above the defence and head home for his seventh of the season. Hamburg have not beaten Bayern in the league since 1982 and any hopes of avoiding another defeat were dispelled two minutes into the second half when Sebastian Schweinsteiger scored after a neat one-two with Pizarro. Hamburg defender Rene Klingbeil reacted too slowly to the danger and even helped tap the ball over the line. The Hamburg defence were again caught ball watching when a harmless pass over the top fell to the feet of Roy Makaay, who wasted no time lobbing a stranded Pieckenhagen for Bayern's third. Makaay's eighth of the season rounded off Bayern Munich's perfect start to 2005. (AP)
