Munich:
Bayern Munich will be hoping to reverse history when they host Juventus in a Group A Champions League match in Munich on Tuesday. Given the long history of both teams in European football, it may be a surprise that the first meeting between the champions of Italy and Germany took place in last season's UEFA Champions League group stage. Juve won both those games and Bayern coach Felix Magath is even more impressed by what he has seen of them this season - although he is hopeful that injuries to players in key positions may help the German cause. Juventus have won nine games in a row - seven in Serie A and two in the Champions League. Formidable outfit And although they will be without midfielder Patrick Vieira, who has an abdominal strain he picked up playing last week for France, they are still a formidable outfit. Coach Magath suggested that given the absence of Juventus first choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon - his replacement is Christian Abbiati - there may be defensive weaknesses to exploit. He's also hoping that Bayern's fervent support in the Allianz Arena can be of some assistance. As for Juventus coach Fabio Capello, he conceded that usually he would not be worried about his players' attitude ahead of a big match. But, on this occasion, he felt the Allianz Arena could prove beneficial to the home side On the other hand, the experienced Capello was not too downcast by the absence of key players such as Vieira and Buffon. He knows he has strength in depth and a sense of purpose amongst all the squad. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
