Kolkata:

Mohun Bagan, depleted in strength due to indisposition of some key players, would have a tough job at hand when they meet Tollygunge Agragami in a National Football League match on Wednesday. While skipper Renedy Singh and dependable rearguards Lolendra Singh and Sanjib Maria were ruled out for injury blues, the unimpressive show put up by new Brazilian recruits could be a cause of worry for Bagan coach Alok Mukherjee. The lacklustre display of Bagan against Mahindra United in the last outing, which they lost 1-2, after an impressive win over Mohammedan Sporting was also a pointer to the lack of consistency in the performance of the glamour side. Veteran Brazilian striker Jose Barreto continue to play the role of a saviour in times of need, but the utility of the new recruits - Eduardo Pereira and Leonardo D'Almeida - were yet to be gauged. Tollygunge, on the other hand, were pepped up having held Churchill Brothers and Dempo in the away matches to cull two points from as many outings. Club coach Krishnendy Roy, who had his plans to restrict Barreto, said his wards were confident to throw a challenge to the three-time NFL champions. Mukherjee, a former coach of Tollygunge, felt the Kolkata outfit would be no push-over and relied on yougnsters like Ashim Biswas, Mehtab Hussain along with Barreto to improve the tally that stood at three points from two matches.
