AZ Alkmaar's fine form in the 2004-2005 Dutch Eredivisie campaign continued as they won two-one away at FC Groningen in the Oosterpark Stadium on Sunday. Barry van Galen's 17th-minute header was cancelled out by Glen Salmon's equaliser after 57 minutes but defender Barry Opdam was the hero as his strike after 72 minutes gave Alkmaar three crucial points at the top of the league table. As a result, Alkmaar remain five points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven in second place and five points ahead of third-placed Ajax - Groningen remain mid-table after their hopes of equalling the club record of five successive victories were dashed by Opdam.
