Auxerre:

Auxerre and Monaco shared the spoils from their French Ligue-1 meeting on Sunday night after drawing 2-2 at the Stade de l'Abbe Deschamps. Monaco opened the scoring in first half injury-time with Julien Rodriguez on target. The Monaco captain added the slightest of headers to Ernesto Chevanton's free kick and the ball bounced inside Fabien Cool's left-hand goal post for a 1-0 lead at half-time. However, Auxerre equalised just seven minutes after the re-start. Level scoreBonaventure Kalou of the Ivory Coast played the ball forward to his compatriot Kanga Akale, who centred the ball for Luigi Peroni. The unmarked Belgian looped his shot over Monaco's Italian goalkeeper Flavio Roma and the score was levelled at a goal apiece. Monaco would reclaim their one goal lead just three minutes later though. Auxerre's defence only half cleared a free kick into the penalty area and Monaco defender Francois Modesto fired into the back of the net with the help of a deflection to make it 2-1 to the visitors. Valuable lifelineHowever, Auxerre were handed a lifeline in the 75th minute when goalscorer Modesto was adjudged to have fouled Akale in the penalty area. Modesto had indeed fouled the Auxerre striker, but replays would show that the infringement had occurred outside of the visitors' box. Jean-Sebastien Jaures fired in from the spot regardless of the decision and the two sides shared the points as the game finished in a 2-2 draw. (AP)
