Austria draw 1-1 with Israel

An injury time goal from skipper Andreas Herzog gives Austria a 1-1 draw against hosts Israel on Saturday.

A last-gasp goal from skipper Andreas Herzog deep into injury time gave Austria a 1-1 draw in Tel Aviv, Israel on Saturday and was enough to assure them of second place in European qualification Group 7 at the expense of their hosts. The first half proved to be dull but the action started in the second half of the game. Israel were awarded a controversial penalty. Shimon Gershon stepped up to put the penalty away and Israel were ahead. As the game moved into stoppage time, Austria were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Israeli penalty area. Skipper Andreas Herzog kept his shot low and it sped past the Israeli keeper for the equaliser. And at the final whistle, both Israel and Austria were tied at 1-1.
