A roundup of happenings around the globe

Liverpool has signed French international striker from Paris St Germain, Nicolas Anelka. Anelka had been with Arsenal, before a controversial move saw him move to Real Madrid. But after having a poor season there he ended up in Paris. The 22-year-old now returns to the Premiership, hoping he can repeat his performance that saw Arsenal win the league and FA Cup "Double" during a two-year spell from 1997-99. Czech forward Milan Baros was also unveiled at the same news conference. Both players are likely to be included in the Liverpool squad to face Aston Villa on Boxing Day. Arsenal gear for Chelsea Arsenal will be seeking to continue their great run against Chelsea after the Gunners pulled off an amazing 2-1 win over Liverpool for their first win at Anfield in nine years. The Gunners are currently second with 33 points, and the only possible change could see Richard Wright coming back from injury to replace third choice goal keeper Stuart Taylor. Chelsea have also had a great season so far, pulling off big wins over defending champions Manchester United, Liverpool and trouncing the Bolton Wanderers 5-1 at Stamford Bridge over the weekend. They would be hoping to continue that form against Arsenal in the London Derby on the Boxing Day match. Manchester U. returning to form Manchester United, who had started the season on a poor note with six losses so far, finally seem to be getting back on track. United demolished Southampton 6-1 over the weekend for their biggest win of the season. The champions also got themselves the fastest goal this season with Rudd Vaan Nistelrooy scoring in the first 30 seconds. After not seeing David Beckham in the starting line up for the past few games, the England captain is likely to make a comeback in their game against Everton on the 26th. Goalkeeper Fabien Barthez though might be out because of a back injury.
