London:

Arsenal beat Everton 2-1 at Highbury in the English Premiership on Saturday despite playing three-quarters of the game with ten men. After 25 minutes, Thomas Gravesen's burst into the penalty area was illegally brought to an end by Sol Campbell.Campbell was dismissed for the foul, but Arsene Wenger's side still went 2-0 up through Thierry Henry and Robert Pires.Everton scored a late consolation through Tomasz Radzinski before having Li Tie sent off.Referee Mark Halsey showed Campbell a straight red card a€" the defender becoming the 51st player to be dismissed in Arsene Wenger's seven year reign. However, apparently undaunted by the setback, the London club took the lead when Alan Stubbs deliberately handled the ball after being outwitted by Thierry Henry. It was a clear penalty a€" Henry himself stroking the ball home for the opening goal before annoying the Everton fans by celebrating right in front of them. The second half could not quite live up to the incident laden first, but Arsenal remained in control and grabbed their second in the 58th minute. A blistering drive from Gilberto Silva was repelled by goalkeeper Richard Wright, with the Everton stopper also getting a hand to Patrick Vieira's follow up. But he could do nothing to stop the ball rebounding to French midfielder Robert Pires, who simply tapped the ball into an empty net. Arsenal were seemingly untroubled playing with ten men, and came within the width of the crossbar from adding a third. Freddie Ljungberg's free kick arched over the wall, but with Wright well beaten, the ball rebounded back off the wood work. Tomasz Radzinski gave David Moyes' side some consolation by pulling a goal back five minutes from time. Set up by Gary Naysmith, the Canadian thumped a hard, low shot past Jens Lehmann. However, the visitors were then almost immediately hit by the dismissal of substitute Lie Tie a€" the Chinese midfielder receiving a second yellow card for a clumsy foul on Ray Parlour. (AP)
