Helsinki:
Roy Hodgson will take over as Finland's football coach earlier than expected. The Englishman and the Finnish Soccer Association agreed on Monday that Hodgson could begin his work immediately and lead a Finnish "B" team in international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and South Korea next week. Originally, Hodgson was to stay with Viking Stavanger in the Norwegian league until August. "The preparations toward Euro 2008 can begin,'' soccer association chairman Pekka Hamalainen said. Hodgson led Switzerland in the 1994 World Cup finals and into the European Championship two years later. He has won titles in Sweden with Halmstads BK and Malmo FF, and in Denmark with FC Copenhagen. Hodgson also had stints in Italy with Inter Milan and Udinese, and in the United Arab Emirates and Switzerland. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
