Zimbabwe President's XI all out for 94

Mumbai:

A Zimbabwe's President's XI is currently in India playing in the Duleep Trophy. The team contains many of the regular national players and the team coach. But sadly they were bowled out for just 94 in the first innings by Central Zone. Having lost some of their senior players like the Flower Brothers and recently Heath Streak and Stewart Carlisle in quick succession, the Zimbabweans are a side busy rebuilding themselves. "Well I think the big thing is the loss of the senior players. We have lost a lot of senior players who have gone to play county cricket. But it's just a big rebuilding for us at the moment. The side we've got has an average age of 22. There's a lot of under 19 cricketers. "From my point of view we've just got to get on and play the game and hopefully with the exposure of playing in India and in South Africa the players will become better players in the near future," said Kevin Curran, coach, Zimbabwe President's XI.Low bounce and completely different conditions from home contributed to the visitors managing just 94 runs in their first innings. And continuous changes in policy do not help the players. Recently, the Board terminated Coach Phil Simmons' contract after which at least 30 players presented a petition to Zimbabwe Cricket last week demanding his reinstatement. "Obviously it's very difficult to maintain continuity with all these things happening. But the main thing to try and do is to focus on what's currently there and not focus on what's happened before or what might happen. Just try to work in the present. Try to make do with what you have," said Hamilton Masakadza, captain, Zimbabwe President's XI.The Zimbabwe Cricket Team obviously has very different goals from most other test playing teams. However they hope that this Indian experience will be a platform for them to gain more experience and continuity and therefore become a more competitive side in world cricket.
