Younger players will ensure Australia's dominance: Hussey

Sydney:

Prolific batsman Michael Hussey says Australia need not worry about their domination of world cricket after the way the younger players performed during the just-concluded tour of West Indies.

After fighting out a 2-0 Test series win over the West Indies, Australia romped to a 5-0 clean sweep of the one-day series on the back of brilliant performances from newcomers like Luke Ronchi, Shaun Marsh and David Hussey, plus the re-emergence of an injury-free Shane Watson.

Hussey said although the likes of Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist, Brad Hogg and Justin Langer couldn't be replaced overnight, the form of Australia's next batch of stars had buoyed the national side.

"It's very exciting. We've lost so many great players from our team but it's good to know we've still got that depth," Hussey was quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph.

"That was probably one of the big question marks - could these young guys come in and perform at the top level? And we've seen it already with guys like Shaun Marsh and Luke Ronchi who have come in and done a fantastic job and put everybody on notice.

"You lose guys like Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Langer out of your team, it's going to take time to replace those guys. You can't do it overnight. "But it's good to know we've got excellent first-class players who are champing at the bit to get an opportunity to play international cricket.

"They know their games well and if they are given opportunities they will succeed," Hussey said.
