We can have a crack at victory: Zaheer

Mohali:

Pacer Zaheer Khan on Monday asserted India can still win the second Test against England here but said a lot would depend on how many overs would be available on the last day tomorrow considering the weather factor.

For the third time in four days, the match was delayed due to a thick fog descending on the PCA stadium and Zaheer said India's crack at victory would depend on whether the match starts at normal time on Tuesday.

"We can have a crack at victory tomorrow. First we have to put up some runs in the morning. But most importantly it would depend on the start of the match. If the match starts on time hopefully we can win the it," Zaheer said after the fourth day's play.

The strike bowler has been in prime form for the last 18 months and credited his success to keeping himself "match-fit" by bowling more and shortening his run-up.

"I am happy that after making a comeback from injury against Sri Lanka I have found my rhythm. I have been keeping myself bowling-fit and match-fit by bowling more. For me just to keep bowling more and more is the mantra for success.

"I bowled a lot during my English county stint and that has really helped me. Shortening the run-up has also helped."

Asked when did he start shortening his run-up, Zaheer said, "I knew at one point of my career I have to shorten my run-up. But because of the amount of international cricket we play there is not much chance to play in domestic cricket and experiment. I think when I was injured in 2004-05 I started my process to shorten the run-up."

Zaheer said there was not much difference in this Mohali track to the one on which India beat Australia recently.

"It is little slower, otherwise the pitch is the same. The weather is different and may be because of that the wicket has binded more."
