Vaas not worried about lack of pace

Galle:

Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas does not mind the criticism he is drawing for his declining pace and is happy scalping a wicket or two with his slow but consistent bowling on the placid tracks here.

Vaas on Saturday claimed two important wickets, including that of Sachin Tendulkar in India's second innings in the ongoing second Test, and said he was happy to have his rhythm back.

"There is nothing much in the wicket. I just bowled patiently and have got my rhythm back. Everybody says I have lost pace but I am still maintaining 130s. I am happy the way I am bowling," Vaas said.

The aging paceman has been drawing a lot of flak for his declining pace and has even been called a spent force.

But unfazed by the criticism, Vaas said he is content with his current form and revealed that he had a plan to dismiss Tendulkar and is happy to be among wickets today.

"I just bowl to him around the off-stump. I am happy to get one or wickets in these conditions."

India are in a strong position having taken an overall 237-run (rpt 237) lead, but Vaas said his team was confident of restricting the Indian innings.

"We have to get them out as early as possible and we have to bat sensibly to get whatever they score. Boys are positive. There are two days (left in the match) and good cricket will be played," he said.
