Umpiring decision this English summer will again raise questions about whether to use more technology in adjusging dismissals.

Umpiring under the scanner again

London:

The series decider against England at Lord's on Saturday turned out to be a one-sided affair.

But there's no doubt that some of the umpring decisions will once again lead the critics to ask the question whether it was time to bring in more technology into the game, especially to deal with decisions that may lead to the umpires making a mistake.

Sachin Tendulkar came into the final on Saturday having silenced his critics for the umpteenth time with the kind of cricket that we had seen him during his glory years.

However, his innings at the Mecca of Cricket was cut short by a bad decision.

"It's part of or certainly was part of the game that you got some bad ones. You got some good ones and you felt that over a long career they would even out. All I can say is that the sort of summer that Sachin has had in England, he must have got a lot of good ones in his favour sometime early on because he has had a pretty rough time from the umpires," said Ian Chappell, former Australia captain.

And one has to agree with Ian Chappell. It's been a summer filled with umpiring blunders and Sachin's been at the wrong end of quite a few of them. Bad luck or being in the wrong place at the wrong time, your heart does go out for the Bombay Bomber.

So is it time to bring in more technology into the game?

"I am of the view that you use it for line decisions. I don't think that technology is as good enough at the moment and from all that I have read and what's been told to me about technology. It's not good enough for fine edges and snicks. It's for line decisons and that's where it should stay," said Rahul Dravid, captain, Indian Cricket Team.
