Chennai:
Sachin Tendulkar, whose absence from the last few tournaments has been sorely felt by the Indian team, is likely to be fit for the third cricket Test against Australia beginning in Nagpur on October 26. The star batsman has been out of action for the last eight weeks because of an elbow injury but captain Sourav Ganguly today gave an indication that he could play the third match in Nagpur. "As far as I know, he should be fit for the third Test in Nagpur. That is what I have come to know from the physio. But it is a different sort of injury," he said ahead of the second cricket Test beginning here tomorrow. Tendulkar has a great record against Australia and in seven Tests at home he has scored 760 runs against the world champions. Handicapped by his absence to a great extent, India lost the first Test in Bangalore by 217 runs with the team managing to score just 246 and 239 in the two innings. Ganguly said the team had missed the services of Tendulkar but added that his absence should not be made as an excuse for poor performance. "Obviously, we missed Sachin. Whichever team he plays for and if he is not there, the team will definitely miss him. But if he is not playing, the rest of the guys should stand up and perform."
