Melbourne:

With first anniversary of racial row between Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds approaching, the controversial Australian all rounder prepares for another "humourless" summer, this time against South Africa.

Symonds, who has not been in great form since he was dropped from the team following his 'go-fishing' act, knows he will not have a smooth ride during their three-Test series starting in Perth from December 17.

"For whatever reason, the South Africans took a dislike to me," Symonds wrote in his book 'Roy: Going for Broke'.

"Although I found them a bit humourless on occasion, I could understand why they sometimes react the way they do," he was quoted as saying by the 'Courier Mail'.

Symonds and Harbhajan Singh were involved in a bitter row during the Sydney Test when India toured Down Under last summer.

Many top members of the visiting team still have memories of clashing with Symonds during Australia's 2006 tour of South Africa and some privately admit they cannot stand the controversial Symonds, according to the paper.

South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher referred to Symonds when he said his team had lost respect for some Australian players.

Another Protea star Jacques Kallis, though diplomatic, confessed his side had been watching Symonds's controversies with interest in the past 12 months.

"Symonds is an interesting sort of character on and off the field. I see he got himself into a bit of trouble. It appears he has been out of line and he's been brought back into line. He's a colourful sort of guy and I suppose every team needs someone like that," he said.
