Brisbane:

In an attempt to come out of a turbulent state of mind, Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds has contacted a sports psychologist to make his return to international cricket.

The Courier-Mail reported on Tuesday that the troubled Queenslander after being urged by friends has approached Brisbane psychologist Phil Jauncey, who has at times travelled with the Australian cricket side. Jauncey is a consultant to the Brisbane Broncos and Brisbane Lions.

Jauncey has also worked extensively with the Queensland Bulls where he has in the past had several group and one-on-one sessions with Symonds.

Symonds was suspended for the Bangladesh series for fishing instead of attending a compulsory team meeting. Since then he has been put on rehabilitation by Cricket Australia (CA).

Symonds now has no chance of making Australia's four-Test tour of India next month and Queensland Cricket staff are yet to hear whether he will make himself available for the Bulls' opening games of the 2008-09 season.

His absence could open a spot for David Hussey as an attacking batsman at five or six in the order and part-time spinner.

The tour will be a litmus test for how the new-look Australian side is positioned ahead of a tough home summer against South Africa, and also New Zealand.
