Islamabad:
Controversial speedster Shoaib Akhtar, who is leaving for England tomorrow to join the county team Durham, has said his availability for the Asia Cup tournament in July depended on the will of the Board and selectors. "If they want me, they will obviously let me and my county know. If they don't require me so be it," the 28-year old speed demon was quoted as saying, by local daily, 'The News'. The star player, however, said although he was leaving for England, he would play for Durham only if he felt he was completely fit. "I will play for Durham only after completely recovering from this injury even though I will join them on Monday." Shoaib, whose injury claims are being scrutinised by a Pakistan Cricket Board-appointed medical committee, also made it clear that playing for Pakistan was his top priority and other commitments were secondary. The Asia Cup tournament, beginning in Sri Lanka on July 15, is being held after a gap of four years. Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have confirmed their participation along with associate members Hong Kong and the UAE. The last edition of the Asia Cup was held in Dhaka in June 2000, which Pakistan won beating India in the final. (PTI).Topics mentioned in this article
