India's triple-centurion thinks he's too positive in ODIs and wants to play the shorter version in Test match mode.

New Delhi:

Aiming to seal a regular place in ODI squad, India's only triple-centurion batsman Virender Sehwag wants to play the shorter format of the game with Test mindset by toning down his aggression.

Sehwag, who became the fastest triple century maker in history of Test cricket during the first match against South Africa in Chennai, said too much of "positive attitude" cost him dear in one-dayers.

"I am too positive in one-dayers and I think I have to change that. Sometimes if you are too positive you get out yourself instead of bowlers dismissing you. That is happening to me," Sehwag said.

"So, in the coming one-dayers I will try to play in the Test mode," Sehwag, who scored 319 off 304 balls at the Chepauk last week, said at a press conference to announce IPL team Delhi Daredevils' brand ambassador and team colours.

Sehwag said he had answered his critics, who questioned his Test place, by scoring 300-plus and becoming the highest Indian individual scorer in an innings in the longer version of the game.

"Lots of people had asked why I was in the Test team. I am happy that I have answered them in Chennai."

The hard-hitting opening batsman would not comment whether the Chennai track was flat or not but said he was looking forward to a spinning track in Ahmedabad in the second Test starting on April 3.

"Last time, when we played in Ahmedabad it was a spinning track and we won the game against Sri Lanka within four days.

So, I am looking forward to a spinning track and India would get the chance to go one up," he said.

Wearing black and red team shirt, Sehwag said he would want to carry his fine Test form into the Twenty20 format in the lucrative IPL starting on April 18.

"It is difficult to say how good I will be in the IPL. It is a totally different format, but I have to lead from the front. I hope to carry my Test form to score heavily in the Twenty20 format," he said at the function to announce Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar as brand ambassador of Delhi

The Delhi Daredevils captain asserted his team is among the strongest in the IPL and would not agree that the likely non-availability of Australian and Pakistani players due to their national duties could deplete his side.

"We have lots of options. If Mohammad Asif is not available we have Glenn McGrath. We also have local boys and other Indian youngsters, they will get the chance, which in a way is good."

Asked coming together of cricketers of various countries in a team in IPL could dilute the intense rivalry like between India and Pakistan, Sehwag said in a lighter vein that this could instead reveal the secret of how different national teams strategise to dismiss top players of other countries.

"They (cricketers from other countries) will tell us about how to dismiss (Sachin) Tendulkar, Sourav (Ganguly). We can tell them (Australians) how we planned against Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds," he said.

Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, who along with Asif was present in the announcement of Akshay Kumar as brand ambassador of Delhi Daredevils, said credit should be given to IPL organisers for planning this kind of tournament where cricketers from various countries share a platform.

"It is a great opportunity. Cricketers from different countries will play together for a team. Credit should go to India for planning this tournament. Our team will play to win," Malik said.

"Combination of cricket and Bollywood is great. Even when they (film stars) are not involved in cricket, I am big fan," he said.

Gautam Gambhir, also present on the occasion, was not concerned about why he was not being drafted into the Indian team for the second Test in place of injured Tendulkar.

"Sachin Tendulkar is a middle order batsman, so is Mohammad Kaif. So, naturally Kaif has been drafted in the team. My time will come, and when it comes I will try to grab the opportunity with both hands," said the Delhi opener who returned from Australia as the highest run-getter in the tri-series there.
