James Faulkner bags the Man of the Match award! Says that it was a tight game and he is going to sleep well tonight and also the rest of the squad. Adds that this was his first Super Over and he wanted to pick wickets. Also says that he is feeling confident about himself and will like to continue with the good work.
If you look back at the match, there were moments from where either side would have sealed the game but they let it adrift. Gautam Gambhir finally struck some form with the bat and till the time he was in the middle, Kolkata were well in the hunt. His wicket started the downfall but then Suryakumar Yadav took the charge and kept Kolkata in the game. James Faulkner, the birthday boy, got into the act in the 19th over and hunted down three wickets which included the dangerous Yadav.
Phew! What a thrilling match! Adrenalin rush, increased heart rate, goosebumps and eventually it was the smart thinking from a New South Wales player, Steven Smith, who took Jaipur to a nerve-wracking victory!
Ball 6: Narine to Smith, Super Over Tied! And Jaipur win on a boundary count! Talk about presence of mind, boy, Smith knew that Jaipur will win even if the scores are tied. He came forward and nudged it through covers for a couple of runs. Shane Watson is pumped up and the Jaipur dug out erupts in joy. Great scenes out there!
Ball 5: Narine to Watson, 1 run, flatter ball around off, Watson swats it down to long off. Only a run and now 3 needed off the last ball.
Ball 4: Narine to Watson, FOUR! Bang! Little short in length on middle, Watson latches onto it and muscles it over mid-wicket for a boundary.
Ball 3: Narine to Smith, 1 run, Smith fails to pull out a clean reverse sweep and crosses.
Ball 2: Narine to Smith, 2 runs, Smith walks down the track and hits it down to wide long on. Quick running between the wickets.
Ball 1: Narine to Watson, 1 run, flatter ball outside off, touch short as well, Watson flat bats it down to long off.
Right then, Jaipur need 12 to win the Super Over! No prizes for guessing as it will be Sunil Narine to bowl. Steven Smith, Shane Watson and Stuart Binny are the batsmen appointed by Jaipur. It will be the Aussie pair to bat first. Watson to take strike! Here we go...
Ball 6: Faulkner to Hasan, OUT! Run out! Shakib whips it down to long on and returns for the second run. The fielder fires in a sharp throw to the keeper and Samson dives to take the bails off. Shakib was found short in the replays. Kolkata finish with 11 runs!
Ball 5: Faulkner to Pandey, 1 run, right in the blockhole, Pandey digs it out to the leg side and crosses. Beauty of a delivery!
Ball 4: Faulkner to Pandey, SIX! That's gone many a mile! Full and around off, Pandey skips down the track, gives it the full whack of the bat and launches it over long on.
Ball 3: Faulkner to Hasan, 1 run, very full in length on middle, Shakib drills it back and it goes on to hit the batsman on the shin. That would have hurt!
Ball 2: Faulkner to Pandey, 1 run, slower full ball on off, Pandey helps it to mid-wicket.
Ball 1: Faulkner to Yadav, OUT! Full length ball sliding down the leg side, Yadav fails to flick and it comes off his pads. Samson does well to make the partial stop and then returns to the fielder at the stumps. He does well to flick the ball onto the stumps and Yadav was short. A leg bye taken. Shakib is the new batsman.
James Faulkner is given the duty to bowl the Super Over. Suryakumar Yadav and Shakib Al Hasan are the two batsmen.
What a finish! Kolkata were in the driver's seat when Suryakumar Yadav was going great guns but the fantastic over by James Faulkner completely changed the landscape of this match. We will be having the first Super Over of the season folks. Stay tuned...
