Phew! So that is all we for you from the league stage of this World Cup. Do join us for the first quarter-final between Sri Lanka and South Africa on 18th March, 2015. Until then, it's goodbye and take care!
MISBAH-UL-HAQ begins stating that it was a pressure game. Credits the fast bowlers for bowling their heart out. Them bowling out Ireland was crucial. Mentions that he is happy with the way Sarfraz is playing. Adds that he did have a lot of starts. Says that they have the momentum, batting is coming apart now (slip of tongue, might have meant that the batting is coming together for them) and hopes they do well going ahead.
WILLIAM PORTERFIELD starts off saying that they were few runs off. It was a good wicket, they got the momentum but did not make it. (On his ton) Says he would have called it a good one had they won. Mentions that the pitch was slower, wishes they had 50 extra runs. Credits the boys for playing well in the tournament. Says that the fans have been fantastic too. Hopes they get more and more games.
SARFRAZ AHMED is adjudged the MAN OF THE MATCH. He thanks the Almighty for helping him. They had a talk about scoring tons (with the staff), so he is happy that he got it there. Says that in a do-or-die game for them, everyone played well and he hopes they win further too.
Ireland won the toss and batted first. They got a superb start, thanks to a ton from Porterfield. They lost their way in the end, losing 5/49 in the last ten overs to finish with a moderate total as rest of the batsmen failed to apply themselves on this deck. Ireland showed promised throughout the tournament but failed to deliver when it mattered the most.
PAKSITAN ARE THROUGH! They have finally chased this down! Playing for his ton, Sarfraz got it and anchored a good chase for Pakistan. Chasing 238, both the Pakistan openers got to their fifties and shared a superb 100-run stand to set up the chase. Shehzad threw his wicket away. Haris fell soon too but Misbah came in and played a handy cameo but was out hit wicket. Umar Akmal ensured that there were no more issues as they crawled to a win, playing for the milestone. The Irish bowlers did bowl in the right areas but they never had the score or the pace to trouble Pakistan. The drop catch of Sarfraz on 39 did not help either.
