Joe Root is named the Man of the Match for his maiden double hundred. Well, that is all we have from his interesting Test match. Both teams will now head to Headingley, Leeds for the second Test match from the 20th of June. Till that time, it's goodbye from us.
Although England lost early wickets in their second innings. a Gary Ballance maiden ton ensured they took the lead to 389. Sri Lanka were playing for the draw from the start and they were once again led by Kaushal Silva who got his second fifty of the game. Kumar Sangakkara was his usual sublime self and he too, scored a gritty fifty. But just when things looked comfortable, England bounced back with a flurry of wickets and at one stage, it looked like they might just pull off an unlikely win. But the pair of Herath and Pradeep managed to hold off England by the skin of their teeth to salvage a draw.
A cliff-hanger right till the end and after 5 grueling days of Test cricket, the two teams have finished on even terms. It's a drawn game and that leaves everything to play for in the final Test. Mathews inserted England on the first morning and that in hindsight, was not a good decision. England posted a mammoth 575 thanks to a majestic double hundred from young Joe Root. Sri Lanka responded in kind with centuries from Sangakkara and skipper Mathews but still gave away a lead of 122 runs to England.
Stuart Broad to Nuwan Pradeep
Almost got him! Full on off, Pradeep offers a block but gets an outside edge that just falls short of second slip to Chris Jordan. That ends the Test match. MATCH DRAWN!
Drama! Full on middle, Pradeep comes forward for a block but the ball hits him on the pads and the following appeal gets the raised finger from the umpire. Hang on, Pradeep has gone for a review and the replays show that there was an inside edge. That saves him. England thought they had their man and were celebrating too, but now have to come back to earth.
Played to the point region by the batsman.
Lands on a length around off, it goes away late and beats the bat.
Dug in short, Pradeep does well to duck under it.
Nuwan Pradeep is the last man in.
Stuart Broad to Rangana Herath
OUT! Brilliant from England and Broad! A nasty rib-tickling short ball, Herath looks to fend it away but the ball comes off his glove and goes through to Prior, Herath walks straightaway. Actually, the replays show that when the ball hit his glove, his hand was off the handle so technically, that wasn't out but Herath walked.
Stuart Broad to bowl the last over of the day.
James Anderson to Shaminda Eranga
Around off, Eranga gets behind the line and keeps it out. Just one over left now.
Another block as Eranga keeps this middle and leg ball away.
Short on the body, Eranga does well to keep it down and away from short leg, they do not bother to take any run.
Eranga has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Banged in short on middle, Eranga wisely evades it.
Liam Plunkett to Rangana Herath
Another wasted bouncer, Herath safely sits under it.
Outside off, an easy leave for Herath.
Bouncer! The batsman does well to evade it.
