Sangakkara gives Lanka lead over India

Kumar Sangakkara played a splendid knock against India and slammed his 17th Test hundred on Day 2 of the final Test in Colombo.

New Delhi:

After all his bowlers failed to get the dangerman, captain Anil Kumble himself had a go at Kumar Sangakkara and dismissed him on the third day of the final Test in Colombo.

Sangakkara stood like a wall and played an anchor's innings to give his side an upper hand over the visitors. He made 144 with the help of 14 boundaries before nicking a delivery going to the keeper from near the off-stump.

Resuming from their overnight score of 251/6, wicketkeeper batsmen Prasantha Jayawardene and Sangakkara added 80 runs for the seventh wicket. Prasantha has been joined by the debutant Dammika Prasad.

Indians are not only fighting the Lankans but also injuries. Their four key players - VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar, Ishant Sharma and Parthiv Patel - sustained injuries on the second day. While the wicketkeeper Patel has taken the field, the rest three are unlikely to do so today.
