Wellington:

The stage is set for a memorable exit for Gary Kirsten, as South Africa chase 234 runs for victory in third Test against New Zealand. The Proteas were 82 for three when play ended on fourth day, with Kirsten, batting on 19, along with skipper Graeme Smith. Smith is on 46. The South Africans need to make 152 runs on Tuesday, to win the match. A victory for the visitors will mean a tie in the three-Test series, which the Kiwis are currently leading 1-0. Fluctuating fortunes Stephen Fleming, New Zealand's captain, described the match as an exhausting rollercoaster and his view was justified, as fortunes rose and fell on a day delayed by rain and shortened by bad light. New Zealand batsmen who resumed their second innings on 128 for five, were finally dismissed for 252. In a match dominated by bowlers, the target of 234, set for South Africa, is an exacting one. And it became more so as New Zealand's Chris Martin claimed two of the three wickets, which fell before stumps. But Smith and Kirsten guided South Africa safely to stumps, with the match balanced delicately. (AP)
