Mumbai:

Rohit Sharma, the young Mumbai batsman, in his first major international tournament, scored an important unbeaten 30 that helped India to a 5-run win over Pakistan.

His parents in Mumbai's suburb of Borivli were understandably ecstatic.

It started with a small prayer and ended with wild celebrations. Rohit Sharma learnt to bat in his Swami Vivekanand International School.

And on Monday night, his family and well-wishers saw the greatest moment in Rohit's brief career, a victory in the 20-20 World Cup against Pakistan.

"We were hoping he would do something wonderful. And just like his name, he did hit," said Poornima, Rohit Sharma's mother.

Sharma did not disappoint his many fans, scoring a crucial unbeaten 30, making his parents who saw the match on the big screen in the school, very proud.

"When we were 110 and four wickets had fallen, he played a crucial knock. I am proud of him. Chak de India," said Gurunath Sharma, Rohit Sharma's father.

He might right now celebrate with his teammates. But on Wednesday, when the team arrives in India, there will be a delighted family waiting for him in Borivli.
