Remove Lloyd from his post: BCCI to ICC

Mumbai:

The International Cricket Council will internally discuss the demand of the Cricket Board to remove former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd from the chairmanship of its Cricket Committee.

An assurance to this effect has been given to the BCCI by ICC's CEO Haroon Lorgat who is to discuss the issue with the world governing body's chief David Morgan, according to information available.

The BCCI has taken umbrage at the comments of Clive Lloyd during a media conference two days ago that the Indian Premier League and the rebel Indian Cricket League should merge.

It then shot off a missive to the ICC demanding that Lloyd be ejected from his post for interfering in the BCCI's internal matters by contending that the former cricketer, in his position as the head of a sub-committee of the ICC, should not have aired his views on the contentious issue.

Lloyd had said the ICC should take measures to integrate the two Twenty20 leagues, the BCCI-initiated IPL and the Essel Group-floated ICL, which angered the Indian board.

The BCCI reminded ICC that former India captain Sunil Gavaskar had to quit the same post in May due to a conflict of interest after the ICC asked him to choose between remaining as chairman of the Cricket Committee and his media commitments.

The issue came in the wake of the January 2-6 Sydney Test when Gavaskar criticised ICC match referee Mike Procter in his syndicated newspaper column for banning Harbhajan Singh for the Indian off spinner's alleged racial abuse directed at Australia's Andrew Symonds.
