Cardiff:
"England are to give him (Vaughan) more time to justify his selection by delaying the announcement about the test squad until the end of the season," the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement Thursday.
The squads for the one-off Twenty20 match against the Stanford Superstars in Antigua on Nov. 1, with prize money of US$20 million at stake, and the one-day series with India in November will be named next week as scheduled.
England coach Peter Moores said the delay in naming the test squad would give other players the chance to claim a place on the tour.
"There have been a lot of lads working very hard in domestic cricket to put themselves forward as well," he said. "It would seem fair to let everybody play. We've got a few people out there playing for form, so it makes sense to get the Stanford and one-day squad announced over the next week and then sit down and announce the test squad towards the end of the county season."
Vaughan, who averages 41 in test cricket but just 27 in one-day internationals, has not played limited-overs cricket for England since the 2007 World Cup and is not expected to figure in either one-day squad.
Vaughan resigned as test captain on Aug. 3 after the defeat to South Africa in the third test at Edgbaston that guaranteed the Proteas' first series win in England since 1965. He took a three-week break from cricket before returning to action for Yorkshire in the county championship.
While England has prospered under new captain Kevin Pietersen, the 33-year-old Vaughan has struggled in the domestic county championship with Yorkshire.
He made 10 and 0 against Kent, then 19 in the first innings of Yorkshire's current game with Sussex.
With the second innings to come and two further county championships fixtures to play, Vaughan has a maximum of five innings to win a place on the tour.
