First it was Sri Lanka Cricket and now it could be the turn of Pakistan Cricket Board to defy BCCI and grant reprieve to players banned for taking part in the rebel Indian Cricket League.

According to sources, legal advisors and officials of the PCB were working on finalising a way to lift ban on its ICL players.

"The main issue facing the PCB is that since the powerful Indian cricket Board is dead against the ICL and the players who have signed up for it, it has to tread carefully without annoying the Indian Board," one source said.

"But the consensus is clear that the ban on ICL players is unjustified and has to be removed at least for domestic cricket," the source added.

SLC has allowed its ICL players to participate in the 2008 domestic -- Premier League -- tournament.

Pakistan has lost around 18 players to the ICL and were subsequently banned from playing in and for the nation.

Some of the players including Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat, Rana Naved have been performing very well in the ICL and the feeling is they can still play for Pakistan.

Shabbir Ahmed, another ICL player, said he was hopeful that the present board would review its policy soon enough.

"We have committed no crime by playing in the ICL which is promoting cricket and providing an alternate livelihood to players who are not picked for the national sides," Shabbir said.

The ICL players are hopeful of a review of the ban by new Chairman Ejaz Butt, who called up captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and congratulated him when Lahore Badshahs reached the final of the ICL.
