Karachi:
Former PCB chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi, who headed a three-member inquiry tribunal formed to probe into Asif's detention in Dubai, recently disclosed that the pacer had carried opium when he was detained for 19-days.
Naghmi, however, said that due to the non-cooperative attitude of the present Board officials the inquiry tribunal had not submitted its findings which included recommendations for banning and fining Asif for even carrying small quantity of opium.
The inquiry tribunal which also included another former official Nadeem Akram is said to have based its findings on the investigation report of the Dubai police sent to the PCB. But present PCB Chief Ejaz Butt said neither he nor his people in the Board had a chance to see the Dubai police report.
"No we have not seen this report in which they claim Asif carried opium. The file is missing we don't know where this file is," he said.
Asked as where could have been the file gone, Butt hinted that the file might have been taken away by Shafqat Naghmi.
"I think this is something you should ask him directly where the report of the Dubai police is and why it is not in the Board records now," Butt added.
He said unless the Board saw the Dubai police report or the report of the inquiry tribunal, it can't comment on the Asif case.
Sources said the PCB had decided that since they don't have any documentary evidence of Asif having carried opium on him when detained in June, they would not take any action against him on this count.
Asif is already suspended by the Board for having failed a dope test during the Indian Premier League and he was supposed to attend a hearing of the drugs inquiry tribunal of the IPL in Mumbai on November 29 and 30th.
But Asif cancelled his visit to India for the hearing because of the Mumbai terror attacks which have also led to postponement of the hearing.
