Lahore:

Shoaib Akhtar's fate hangs in balance after the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan summoned the express bowler for a hearing on May 5. "Shoaib has been summoned to meet Khan in his office in Lahore on Wednesday as the verdict of a medical commission on Shoaib's injury is also expected either on Wednesday or Thursday," PCB sources said today. No PCB official was ready to confirm that the four-member medical commission, set up to examine Shoaib's suspicious injury in the Rawalpindi Test against India, had submitted its report. Sources within the PCB said the report was with chief executive Ramiz Raja. Shoaib fell on his follow through on day two of the third and final Test against India and did not take the field the next day. India went on to win the match and take their first-ever series on Pakistan soil 2-1. Shoaib did bat on day four and his unbothered batting raised suspicions over his injury. The PCB chief had said in BCC Hard Talk after the defeat that an MRI scan on Shoaib's wrist showed no injury which forced him to set up a medical commission headed by a Karachi-based orthopaedic surgeon. Meanwhile, medical tests on the bowler by the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust in Lahore showed he sustained injury in his eleventh rib. (PTI)
