Pakistan win toss and bat

Lahore:

Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik won the toss and elected to bat in the first day-night international against Bangladesh at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.

Pakistan, without banned speedster Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif, included fit-again fast bowler Umar Gul to back up medium pacers Rao Iftikhar and Sohail Tanveer.

Akhtar was last week banned for five years for a series of disciplinary breaches, while Asif is recovering from an elbow injury sustained last year.

The five-match series was arranged after Australia postponed their tour of Pakistan over security fears.

Bangladesh, who beat Ireland 3-0 last month, left out fast bowlers Syed Rasel and Shahadat Hossain from their line-up.

Teams:

Pakistan: Shoaib Malik (captain), Salman Butt, Nasir Jamshed, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul Haq, Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanveer, Rao Iftikhar.

Bangladesh: Mohammad Ashraful (captain), Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Aftab Ahmed, Shahriar Nafees, Shakib Al Hasan, Dhiman Ghosh, Abdur Razzak, Mahmudullah Riad, Farhad Reza, Roqibul Hassan.

Match referee: Mike brocter (RSA)
Umbires: Steve Bucknor (WIS), Aleem Dar (PAK)
TV umbire: Zameer Haider (PAK)
