Pakistan confirms split series against Sri Lanka

Karachi:

Sri Lanka will tour Pakistan to play three ODIs later this month and return again in February for two Test matches, hoping to host India for a potential one-day series in between.

Chief Operating Officer of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Salim Altaf said that, after much negotiation, Sri Lanka has agreed to reach here on January 18 to play three ODIs and return again in February for two Test matches.

"The itinerary is fine with us and we have confirmed it," Altaf said.

"Obviously Sri Lanka is keeping a window open to organise a one-day series against India which is why they have split their tour to Pakistan into two halves," sources in the PCB said.

Altaf said Sri Lanka will reach Karachi on Jan 18 and then play the first ODI here on 21 followed by matches in Lahore on 24 and in Faisalabad on 27.

They will then return again on February 14 for the Tests in Karachi and Lahore.

"The dates for the two Tests would be finalised soon but we are delighted that this is series has been confirmed as we are keen to organise international cricket at home," Altaf said.

PCB is keen to organise an international series at home as they have seen two major events postponed last year due to security and safety reasons while the national team has not played a Test since December 2007.

Sri Lanka is trying to also arrange a one-day series with India, which had cancelled its tour of Pakistan which was slated to start from Jan 4. It was after the cancellation of the Indian team's tour that PCB invited Sri Lanka for the Test and one-day series.
