Adelaide:

New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori won the toss and elected to bat in the first of three Chappell-Hadlee one-day cricket internationals against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.

Australia chose to go into the match with local fast bowler Shaun Tait instead of left-armer Mitchell Johnson and have included wrist-spinner Brad Hogg and all-rounder James Hopes in their eleven.

The Kiwis left out Jeetan Patel, Gareth Hopkins and Michael Mason, while paceman Chris Martin will play.

Australia are out for revenge after losing the previous Chappell Hadlee series 3-0 in New Zealand last February before they went on to win the World Cup in the Caribbean.

The Australians are looking to capitalise on their convincing win over New Zealand in the Twenty20 warm-up match in Perth last Tuesday.

Teams:

Australia: Ricky Ponting (captain), Matthew Hayden, Adam Gilchrist, Mike Hussey, Michael Clarke, Andrew Symonds, James Hopes, Brett Lee, Brad Hogg, Shaun Tait, Nathan Bracken. Mitchell Johnson (12th man)

New Zealand: Daniel Vettori (captain), Lou Vincent, Brendon McCullum, Jamie How, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Mathew Sinclair, Jacob Oram, Kyle Mills, Mark Gillespie, Chris Martin. Jeetan Patel (12th man).
