Nagpur gets set for third Test

Nagpur:

If Chennai had the perfect pitch for India to try and level the series 1-1 with Australia, Nagpur could well turn out to be the opposite. According to the curator Kishore Pradhan it could favour the pace bowlers early on, with spin becoming effective only from the third day. The situation is not something the Indian team would want given the fact that Irfan Pathan has already been ruled out of the Test because of an injury. However, Pradhan defends himself saying he was only following the board's orders."The motto was to prepare fast, pacy and bouncy tracks. How can we go back now? We can't revert this process now," he says.Batsman friendly pitchNagpur has always been a batsman friendly track as is evident by the results of the matches played here. Of the seven matches held here so far, only three have produced results. India has won two of those, having lost only to New Zealand way back in 1969.Nagpur has also been a happy hunting ground for Sachin Tendulkar. The master blaster has three centuries here at an average of 156. That would make the city of oranges the perfect place to make a comeback with a record equaling 34th Test century.Tickets sales had been slow over the last two days, but with Tendulkar fit and raring to go ticket sales have gone up. Organisers are confident that the 38,000 capacity ground could well be sold out if India do well on the first day. But past concerns over crowd behaviour in Nagpur has forced the organisers to increase security and have CCTV put all over the ground."The entire association's name was spoilt because of the incident that took place last time. We do not want to repeat that episode again. So it is a matter of preventive maintenance," said Sudhir Dabir, Coordinator, VCA.India, though, will be hoping that the home support gives them a boost and the Nagpur marks a turning point in the season.
