London:

Recently-sacked England coach Peter Moores is to take over as the head coach of county side Lancashire.

The 46-year-old Moores was sent packing by the England and Wales Cricket Board last month following the breakdown of his relationship with national team captain Kevin Pietersen.

He has signed a three-year contract with the Red Rose county.

"I feel very excited and privileged to be given the opportunity to work for the county I grew up supporting, and look forward to meeting the players and working alongside (director of cricket) Mike Watkinson to bring success to the club," Moores said.

He will be responsible at Lancashire for first-team affairs and coaching duties.
