New Delhi:

The only support for the Australian team over the Sydney Test seems to be coming from Australian players themselves - past and present.

Glenn McGrath has backed his former teammates saying the now much repeated term: "The Aussies play hard and fair."

McGrath said he was surprised at Anil Kumble's comment that only one team was playing the game in the spirit of the game.

The former Australian fast bowler also added that it was unfair to question Ricky Ponting's integrity given that he had himself ruled that a catch he had taken of Rahul Dravid in the first innings was not cleanly taken.

Meanwhile, Australian captain Ricky Ponting said that India's threat to pull out of the series was a little too extreme.

"Look they're entitled to do whatever they think is appropriate at the time but for me that would be a little bit extreme I must admit. As I said from what I and the rest of the Australian players can take from the first two Tests is a lot of fun and a lot of enjoyment," said Ricky Ponting, Captain, Australian Cricket Team.

"Sure there's been something else here in the background here that's happened in this last Test that's probably put a sour taste in a couple of the Indian teams mouths but I think it's important for all of us to look past that and realise that both India and Australia have got and have had tremendous relations through a hundred years of Test cricket and you'd like to think that one little incident like this wouldn't bring undone all the great work that has been done over a long period of time," he added.
