Bridgetown, Barbados:
The 22-year-old cracked three sixes and three fours to power the home team to 102 for three and victory with 11 balls to spare.
Captain Dwayne Bravo sealed the triumph with an unbeaten 28 off 15 balls.
Australia had totaled 97 for three off 11 overs after persistent rain had reduced the contest from 20 overs per side.
A sellout crowd of 13,500 waited patiently for two hours at Kensington Oval as light showers delayed the start.
Australia began brightly through Shaun Marsh and Luke Ronchi, both on international debut, after being sent in.
The pair added 57 for the first wicket in six overs.
Wicketkeeper Ronchi blasted six fours and a six in 36 off 22 balls.
Left-hander Marsh cracked 29 off 22 deliveries with one four and two sixes.
West Indies rookie pacer Kemar Roach, 10 days short of his 20th birthday, claimed both to stall the visitors in mid-innings.
Ronchi lofted to long-off while Marsh hauled a slower ball to deep square leg where Marshall held a magnificent running catch.
Shane Watson compiled an unbeaten 17 off 15 balls with a six and a four to guide Australia through the final overs.
Bravo took one for 12 off two overs in an impressive spell at the death.
Marshall launched West Indies' reply with an awesome pull for six from Brett Lee's first ball.
The Jamaican was even more ruthless against Mitchell Johnson, swatting him twice for legside sixes next over. One hit cleared the Greenidge and Haynes Stand at square leg.
Marshall dominated a stand of 53 off 21 balls with newcomer William Perkins before two run outs threatened to change the course of the match.
Marshall fell to Watson's swift pickup and direct hit as he advanced too far from his crease.
Perkins was undone by Ricky Ponting's direct hit from the offside.
When Watson had Denesh Ramdin caught at mid-off at 64 for three after 5.3 overs, Australia sensed a way back into the match.
But Bravo hit three sixes and a four to usher home his team.
Andre Fletcher supplied 6 not out off eight balls.
