Hashim Amla | 40 | 38 | 6 | 1 | 105.26 |
b Jeetan Patel 12.5 OUT! FREAKY DISMISSAL! Amla will be kicking himself when he sees the replays of this one. Outside off, spinning in a touch, Amla goes well across for the premeditated paddle. He had got into a tangle off the first ball of the over but this time actually made decent contact. However, length did him in as it wasn't that full and the ball cannons on to the sticks. Awkward dismissal in the end but the Kiwis won't mind it. Amla was looking in supreme touch until this. 66/2

Quinton de Kock Wk | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Luke Ronchi b Jeetan Patel 0.3 OUT! GONE! Perfect start for the Kiwis and the move to start with Patel has worked wonders. Loopy off break on a length outside off, turns away late after pitching. De Kock looks to push at it and then decides to make a leave. Too late though and he gets a feather that is easily pouched by Ronchi. A golden duck for Quinton. 1/1
| |||||
Faf du Plessis | 67 | 97 | 4 | 0 | 69.07 |
c Mitchell Santner b Jimmy Neesham 31 OUT! Soft dismissal and it's a timely wicket for New Zealand. Neesham angles in a length ball on middle, holding up a bit onto the batsman, du Plessis is early into the shot and ends up giving a catching practice to Santner at short mid-wicket. End of a good knock by Faf but on this pitch after getting his eyes in, he should have batted through. Not going to be easy for the new batsman walking in to adjust to the pace. 140/4
| |||||
JP Duminy | 25 | 41 | 1 | 0 | 60.97 |
b Tim Southee 26.5 OUT! This time Duminy has dragged it on! Southee persists with his line around off, angling in a length ball and not giving enough room for the cut shot. Duminy, however, still wants to manufacture a square cut and ends up inside edging it onto the stumps. He survived on the second ball of this over but not this time. A 62-run stand has been broken and Duminy falls once again after getting a start. 128/3

David Miller | 1 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 25 |
c Dean Brownlie b Mitchell Santner 32 OUT! Miller is gone cheaply! South Africa's innings going off track. Flighted full ball on middle, Miller brings out his slog sweep but fails to middle it well. It flies off the toe part of the bat and Brownlie in the deep mid-wicket region takes a well-judged low catch. Miller's poor form since returning from a finger injury continues. 143/5
| |||||
Dwaine Pretorius | 10 | 21 | 1 | 0 | 47.61 |
run out (Ross Taylor) 36.5 OUT! MIX UP AND GONE! Waste of a wicket. Pretorius works it straight to square leg and wants a single. Slight stutter but they decide to go through with the single. Dwaine was never going to make it as Taylor fires the throw at the bowler's end. Patel does the rest and Pretorius is well short. 158/6
| |||||
Chris Morris | 28 | 27 | 4 | 0 | 103.70 |
b Trent Boult 45.4 OUT! BOWLED 'EM! Very full on middle, Morris looks to swing across the line but misses and finds the timber disturbed. It was there to be hit but he chose the wrong option. Straight down the ground would have been ideal. 216/7
| |||||
Wayne Parnell | 29 | 12 | 2 | 2 | 241.66 |
run out (Jimmy Neesham) 50 OUT! Yorker outside off, dug out through cover-point for a single. Parnell sacrifices himself as they look to steal the second run which was never there. It's the last ball of the innings and so worth the risk. Neesham fires the throw at the keeper's end and Ronchi has all the time in the world to dislodge the bails with Parnell not in the frame. SOUTH AFRICA FINISH ON 279-8. 279/8

Dean Brownlie | 4 | 10 | 1 | 0 | 40 |
c Quinton de Kock b Kagiso Rabada 2.5 OUT! Rabada gets lucky with this wicket as it wasn't really a wicket taking delivery. He once again slips a full length ball down the leg side, Brownlie tries flicking but it catches the inside half of the bat, a very thin connection and de Kock behind the stumps grabs it neatly. They appeal and the finger goes up. A soft manner to get out and South Africa draw first blood. 5/1
| |||||
Kane Williamson C | 21 | 24 | 3 | 0 | 87.5 |
lbw b Imran Tahir 12.2 OUT! And Tahir leaves his mark immediately. He lets out a loopy leg spinner on middle, curling away just a bit, Williamson commits himself into a sweep shot but fails to put bat on ball. He is rapped on the pads, they appeal and the finger goes up. The Kiwi skipper has a chat with his partner and then walks back without taking the DRS. The replays show that it hit his front pad first which is very much in line of the stumps and then brushed his back pad too, quite irrelevant now. The Ball Tracker then confirms that it would have hit the off stump. Good decision. 77/2

Ross Taylor | 66 | 97 | 7 | 1 | 68.04 |
c Hashim Amla b Imran Tahir 43 OUT! And mid on is in business straightaway! Tahir serves a flighted ball around middle, Taylor skips down the track to take it on the full but fails to pump it over the mid on fielder. He ends up hitting it flat and straight into the hands of Amla inside the ring. Wonderful knock by Taylor comes to an end. A wicket too late for South Africa. 23 needed off 42 balls. 257/3
