Imam-ul-Haq | 151 | 131 | 16 | 1 | 115.26 |
b Tom Curran 45.2 OUT! Bowled 'em! Yorker from Curran and that brings this magnificent knock from Imam to an end. He tries to make room after coming down the ground to force it away but the ball is missed. It goes onto uproot the off stump. The whole crowd applauds Imam as he walks off. Truly has put his team in a good position in the game. 310/6

Fakhar Zaman | 2 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 50 |
c Joe Root b Chris Woakes 1 OUT! The centurion of the last match departs cheaply today. Perfect delivery from Woakes. He angles across a good length delivery outside off and Zaman pokes inside the line without any footwork. It takes the outside edge and flies to Root who catches it in the second attempt. First the ball popped out of his hands but the English Test skipper sticks his right hand out to grab it in front of first slip. Early setback for Pakistan. 7/1

Babar Azam | 15 | 11 | 3 | 0 | 136.36 |
b Chris Woakes 4.5 OUT! A ripper by Woakes to breach the defense of Pakistan's best batsman. Wow, talk about taking revenge for the last two balls. A perfect inswinger from Chris. He lands it on a good length just around off and gets it to swerve back in after hitting the deck. Babar Azam is caught napping on the back foot as he tries to defend it. But the ball keeps on coming into him and goes past his blade to disturb the top of off stump. What a sight for a fast bowler! Second wicket for Woakes and he has provided an excellent start for England. 27/2

Haris Sohail | 41 | 41 | 7 | 0 | 100 |
run out (Tom Curran) 16.4 OUT! Haris Sohail is found not to be just run out but also lazy in his attempt to drag his bat in. Dear me, moments like these change the complexion of the game entirely. The 68-run stand is broken and Pakistan will have to start all over again. Coming to the delivery, Tom delivers a good length ball on middle and Imam goes on his back foot to defend. It takes the inner half and rolls near the stumps off his pads. Sohail senses the chance for a run and calls his partner quickly. Imam responds and Curran also sprints across towards the ball. He then shows his football skills to deflect the ball onto the stumps as Sohail tries to get in. They appeal and the square leg umpire goes upstairs. The replays show that Sohail hasn't stretched himself enough while dragging his bat. He is short of the crease and will have to go. Sohail was batting with so much fluency and this certainly is a big blow to Pakistan. A basic mistake, that and England get a bonus wicket. 95/3
| |||||
Sarfaraz Ahmed C Wk | 27 | 34 | 2 | 0 | 79.41 |
c sub b Liam Plunkett 27.3 OUT! The dive saved him last ball but this ball he decides to get himself out by playing an atrocious shot! A length ball on middle, Sarfaraz wants to slog the ball over deep mid-wicket but gets the top edge and it goes really high. The ball is in the air for a long time, these catches are not easy but Chris Jordan, the substitute fielder, takes the catch with real calmness. Lovely pair of hands and the Pakistan skipper has to depart. That brings an end to the 67-run stand and Imam watches another batsman get dismissed from the other end. 162/4
| |||||
Asif Ali | 52 | 43 | 2 | 3 | 120.93 |
c Jason Roy b Chris Woakes 42.3 OUT! Asif departs! Caught at mid off! Looks like he was beaten by pace! A short ball on off, Ali looks to play a cross-batted shot and pull the ball but he cannot time it at all! The ball goes only as far as mid off where Roy takes the simplest of catches. A really good innings from Asif comes to an end, but he has helped Pakistan get to this position with his 125-run stand with Imam. 287/5
| |||||
Imad Wasim | 22 | 12 | 4 | 0 | 183.33 |
c & b Chris Woakes 46.4 OUT! Fourth wicket for Woakes! A short ball does the trick once more. It was the slower bouncer, Wasim wanted a big one and looks to pull but gets a top edge that goes straight up and not far. Chris runs there and takes the catch easily off his own bowling near mid-wicket. Some smiles for the English bowling line-up as one of its bowlers is doing really well. 322/7
| |||||
Faheem Ashraf | 13 | 11 | 1 | 0 | 118.18 |
lbw b Tom Curran 48.2 OUT! The review works! The impact is in line and it's hitting the stumps! The boundary is cancelled and instead, this is a wicket and a dot ball as well. Low full toss on leg stump, the ball gets Faheem right on the boot. The umpire says no to the appeal and Eoin Morgan reviews immediately. The replays show that the ball is in line and then going on to the leg stump. That looked like it was outside the line of leg but somehow the replay has worked like a marvel. 335/8

Shaheen Afridi | 7 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 175 |
c & b David Willey 49.2 OUT! Remarkable catch! Off the weaker hand! A short ball on middle, Shaheen looks to pull it away but the ball goes off the top half of the bat and lobs in front of cover-point. Willey runs there in his followthrough, outstretches his right hand and holds on for the catch. Stunner! Pakistan might still be bowled out here. 348/9

Jason Roy | 76 | 55 | 8 | 4 | 138.18 |
c Asif Ali b Faheem Ashraf 17.3 OUT! A wicket against the run of play and finally Pakistan have broken the opening partnership. Smartly bowled by Ashraf. He follows Roy down the leg side with a short ball and nearly cramps him for room. Jason still goes on with his shot and mistimes his flat-batted shot towards cover-point where Asif Ali manages to hang on to the catch, staring at the sun. His eyes were off the ball but hands were in proper position. End of a fluent knock by Jason Roy and the 159-run entertaining stand comes to an end too. 200 more needed off 195 balls. 159/1
| |||||
Jonny Bairstow Wk | 128 | 93 | 15 | 5 | 137.63 |
b Junaid Khan 28.4 OUT! Bairstow drags it on and he is furious with himself. Hits the stumps with his bat in anguish before heading back to the pavilion. Might be asked to visit the match referee's room later in the day. A short of a length ball outside off off, angling in from 'round the wicket, Bairstow stays back to play the cross-batted shot but it takes a fat inside edge and destroys the stumps behind. That brings a spectacular knock by Jonny to a close. 125 needed off 128 balls. England stay on top! 234/2
| |||||
Joe Root | 43 | 36 | 4 | 1 | 119.44 |
c Babar Azam b Imad Wasim 34.3 OUT! Hit straight to mid off! Root departs without a fifty. A flatter one outside off, Joe wanted to hit this over mid off but does not get the elevation. He ends up hitting it straight to Babar Azam at mid off who takes a good catch putting his hands up to the right of his face. End of a good-looking innings from Root but he would have loved to see this chase through. 81 needed off 93 now. 278/3
| |||||
Ben Stokes | 37 | 38 | 2 | 2 | 97.36 |
run out (Shaheen Afridi) 41.2 OUT! An unfortunate run out for Ben Stokes. Fuller length ball on off, Moeen absolutely drills it back towards the bowler. It deflects off Afridi's left leg to the stumps and Stokes is found strolling out of his crease. Ben knows that and starts to walk to the pavilion. He has a wry smile on his face and also gives thumbs up to his partner. Mere formality left in this match. 324/4
