That's all we have from this match. India have opened their campaign with a thumping win while South Africa have suffered their third loss in as many games. On Thursday, Australia will be getting ready to face West Indies at Trent Bridge. The action begins at 1030 local (0930 GMT). We look forward to your company then. In the meanwhile, you can switch tabs to get all the updates from the Bangladesh versus New Zealand match. Cheers!
India skipper, Virat Kohli says the wait of the first game was very long. States this game was challenging and it was important to start off well. Tells that they did not win with a good run rate but the pitch was very challenging. Credits Rohit Sharma for his knock and praises the other batsmen for batting well around him. Adds they were going to bowl first had they won the toss as it is always tricky against the new balls initially. Stresses Bumrah is on another level and Chahal too was excellent. Mentions that after de Kock's catch, his hands were buzzing and that tells you how quick Bumrah was bowling. Says the first win is very important and they were confident in the field but they had to be cautious in batting as South Africa have a very good attack. Ends by saying Rohit was brilliant, Rahul and Dhoni also batted nicely and Hardik finished it well.
South Africa captain, Faf du Plessis says India were magnificent on a tough pitch. Adds that they have a really good bowling attack comprising of fine pacers at the start and then quality spinners later on. Mentions they did well to crawl back after the start they had but then the Indian spinners ran through the middle order. Tells that they still did well to get back in the game, however, they needed someone to do what Rohit did, score a ton. States they picked an extra spinner so that they could attack later on but there wasn't enough runs on the board. States that maybe Ngidi and Steyn would have made a difference in these conditions. Mentions Rabada was extremely unlucky and says he has never seen so many balls fall in no man's land. Adds Chris Morris was also very good with the ball. Admits the guys are hurting at the moment but they are still making mistakes all the time. Ends by saying the batsmen need to convert their starts.
Man of the Match, Rohit Sharma says it is a different experience than playing in India. Mentions there was something for the bowlers, so he could not play his natural game. Further adds he could not play the shots he loves and he had to play close to his body and concentrate more on leaving deliveries initially. Stresses building partnerships were the key, especially on this wicket. States it is the role of the batsmen in the middle to get the job done as they can't rely on one or two batsmen all the time. Reminds that their batters have done it on a regular basis. Tells this is the beauty of playing in England, they are playing in early June, the weather is good and you don't sweat as you do in India. Ends by admitting that it was not a typical Rohit Sharma knock as he had to take his time and make sure that the job is done.
For South Africa, it was yet another dismal batting show. They were put to a stern test by the Indian pacers and then were made to dance on the tunes of Yuzvendra Chahal. The Proteas managed a total in excess of 200 eventually and that was largely possible due to the partnership between Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada. Not just batting, these two bowled with a lot of fire as well. They created many chances up front but didn't have luck going their way. The two wrist spinners, Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi, failed to create the same impact that the Indian spinners managed and altogether it was not their day.
A smooth sail in the end for India as they cruise to a convincing win in their tournament opener! Chasing a target of 228 runs, they did lose Dhawan and Kohli quite cheaply but Rohit Sharma held one end strongly and stitched an 85-run stand with KL Rahul. South Africa managed to break that partnership and got an opening but MS Dhoni walked in and threaded yet another useful stand with Sharma to put this chase to bed. It turned out to be a really good game for Rohit, who after getting a life on 1, went on to stroke an unbeaten century.

Great commitment shown by Tahir. Pandya guides this through point. Tahir makes a lot of ground to his left, dives and pushes it back in. The batters only get two.

Chris Morris To MS Dhoni OUT!
OUT! The finisher, Dhoni, walks back before finishing the game. However, his partnership with Rohit Sharma has taken India to the brink of victory. South Africa, on the other hand, finally hang onto one catch. Morris bowls the slower one outside off, Dhoni looks to go big but is done in by the pace. He ends up hitting it high up in the air towards the bowler's end. Morris calls for it and takes. Collides with the stumps and falls over after taking the catch. Does well to keep the ball in his left hand. Something to rejoice for the South Africans.
Chris Morris is back!
