That's all we have from the third ODI. After taking the lead, Zimbabwe now find themselves in a precarious position as they need to win the next one if they have to keep the series alive. Sri Lanka on the other hand would be looking to extend their winning momentum and seal the series when these two meet at the same venue on July 8, 2017 at 0945 local (0415 GMT). Do join us for that game. Until next time, it's goodbye from us. Before we leave you can switch tabs to catch all the action from the ongoing Test match at Lord's between England vs South Africa and then the 5th and final ODI between West Indies and India. Cheers!
Sri Lankan skipper, ANGELO MATHEWS starts by saying it was a fantastic effort from his boys. Continues they were under pressure after losing the first game but since then they have never looked back. Lauds Hamilton Masakadza's effort with the bat but is elated to have restrict them to 310. Credits his openers (Gunathilaka and Dickwella) and is short of words to describe their knocks. Ends up thanking Tharanga for taking them over the line and more importantly for the sacrifice he has made for his country as he has been sent up and down in the past few years.
Zimbabwe skipper, GRAEME CREMER feels that they DID NOT have enough runs on the board. Admits that they slowed down in the middle overs and could have got 350-360. Also, he says that they could have made a good fist of the score they eventually made but the dropped catches did not help.
MAN OF THE MATCH, DANUSHKA GUNATHILAKA is really delighted to get his maiden ODI ton and that too in front of his home crowd. Credits Dickwella for offering a perfect hand to him. Adds it was a good wicket to bat on and says they knew if they played their natural game they could get it easily.
Both the Lankan openers got out in quick succession but Upul Tharanga and Kusal Mendis stitched another 75-run stand to take their team over the line and take a 2-1 lead in the series. Zimbabwe did excellently well with the bat but failed to make an impact with the ball. Their bowlers were left hapless and their sloppiness on the field didn't help their cause either. Stay tuned as we bring you the captain quotes in a short while...
Sri Lanka have chased down a total in excess of 300 without breaking a sweat. Agreed it was a batting paradise here in Hambantota but you need application to do that. The Lankan openers, Gunathilaka and Dickwella started to hit from the word go and never let the visitors run away with the game. They smashed every bowler all around the park and in the process went on to break a couple of records as well, one being the marathon opening stand of 229 which happens to be the highest at this venue for any wicket. They got lives to which they took full toll of and thereby registered their maiden tons and laid a solid platform for the middle order to complete the remaining formalities.
