Finally, a date with destiny has been fixed by Australia! Life has come full circle for this team, as the final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup will be the same as the first match of the tournament. The hosts were beaten then by India but will be looking to exact revenge on the most important day of all. Do join us for what promises to be an exhilarating contest at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The match will start at 1800 Local (0700 GMT) on Sunday, 8th March 2020. Till then, cheers and take care!
Australian skipper, Meg Lanning, says that it was extremely tense and even in the last couple of balls they're not safe. Adds that there were nerves in the last over and she is happy that they ended up with the win. Mentions that they had a good total without it being great. Adds that they needed to bowl really well to get the desired result. States that it is all about calming everyone down and adds that they have been really good after the first couple of games. Goes onto say that coming back after being three down early against Sri Lanka was a great effort. Tells that India are a class side and have been playing excellent cricket and Australia will have to play really well. Feels that they just need to enjoy the final.
South African skipper, Dane Van Niekerk, is looking very upset with the loss. Says that they felt good about the target but credits Australia for the way they bowled. Lauds her own bowlers also for pulling things back in the first innings. Shares that to come short every time is not easy and she is feeling really emotional looking at her girls. States that they are a talented bunch and praises Wolvaardt for her efforts down the order. Signs off with a little bit of smile as she says that South Africa is a great place for the next World Cup and everybody will thoroughly enjoy.
MEG LANNING IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her outstanding contribution with the bat! She says that the evening was very special and that the groundsmen did a terrific job. Further says that the wicket was very skiddy and the South African bowlers did really well. Again mentions about the groundsmen and their wonderful job so that a match could be possible even after such long and heavy showers in Sydney.
Soon after the completion of the first innings, the heavens opened up and the chase was reduced to 13 overs with South Africa needing 98 to win. Australia though were motivated and brought their best game on the field. The bowling was neat and tidy and it was superbly backed up by the fielders. Megan Schutt used all her experience and bowled crucial overs at both ends of the chase. After getting reduced to 24/3, Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus led a fightback with a handy partnership but once this stand was broken, Australia piled on the pressure and secured a win. Stay tuned for the presentation...
What a day this has been! First semi-final got completely washed out and the second one was also expected to suffer the same fate. Australia's chances of qualification were hanging by a thread and in case of a no-contest, South Africa would have gone through. But the weather cleared just in time for the home team. Put to bat, Australia started well but then lost the plot. The South African bowlers applied immense pressure but Meg Lanning stuck to her guns and played a vital knock to take Australia to a challenging total. Her stumping chance was missed when she was on 24 and in hindsight, that has cost South Africa big.
What a match! Australia have pulled it off! They fought the weather, they fought the South African team and have booked a date with India in the grand finale! Don't ever let the pressure exceed the pleasure. Spare a thought for South Africa though. Once again they have faltered under pressure of the knockouts. Tears in their camp, ecstasy in the Australian camp! Emotions pouring.

Jess Jonassen To Chloe Tryon OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Tryon departs now and Lanning takes the catch. A full toss outside off, Tryon looks to hit it hard on the off side but does not get the full connection that she would have wanted. The ball lobs towards extra cover where Meg Lanning makes no mistake and takes an easy catch to her right.
19 needed off 6 balls! Who will bowl the pressure over? Meg Lanning has plenty of options. She has entrusted Jess Jonassen to do the job.
