That is it from the opening T20I between Australia and India at the 'Gabba. The Aussies would have identified plenty of mistakes in this win and have plenty of areas to work around. India, on the other hand, were not far away from being their best in this game and would focus only on improving their fielding, come the next game. Do join us for the second T20I on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 6.50 pm local (0750 GMT) from the MCG. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
ADAM ZAMPA HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. He's excited with the award says it's a good feeling. Hopes to be more consistent. On Kohli's wicket, Zampa says that it obviously was a big wicket and cherishes it. On dropping Dhawan off his own bowling, Zampa mentions that he was a bit nervy as he played a few shots after that. On Carey's stumping of Rahul, Adam cheekily says that he does not trust Carey behind the stumps in terms of DRS or stumping but here, he was correct.
Australian skipper, Aaron Finch says that his boys really fought hard, especially during the middle overs. On his confusion with the allotted quota of overs, Finch smiles and admits that he got confused. Stresses that he was confident that Stoinis would pull it off in the end with 12 to defend and praises him for executing his plans well. On his dropped catch by Kohli, Finch does not read too much into it.
Indian skipper, Virat Kohli says that they always get good support in this part of the world and called it a great atmosphere. Adds that the team enjoyed this game, which was a close one. Admits that it was a see-saw game, with India bowling well initially but then Maxwell and Stoinis bringing the Aussies back. Adds further that they started well with the bat and it seemed like they would win but the Aussies held their nerves. Admits that they fumbled in the middle overs but Rishabh and Karthik brought them close. Praises Shikhar Dhawan for his positive and clear mindset and game play and has a word of praise for Dinesh Karthik as well. On him personally not having a great outing, Kohli modestly agrees and with a smiling face says he will learn from the game and will try to do better in the next match. States that India do not have too much time to think about the loss and can brush this off quickly and turn up refreshed for the next game.
Enter Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant. Nothing to lose. The duo had a magnificent partnership of 51 from 23 balls, which revived the game. The 25-run over from Andrew Tye in the 14th opened the game big time but then, the seamer bounced back with the wicket of Pant and Stoinis closed it out in the final over. Too close to call - small moments here and there could have won the game for either side. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
India started gingerly, losing Rohit early but Dhawan kept them in the hunt. He was losing partners at the other end but till he was there in the middle, the visitors were in with a shout. Then came that spell from Adam Zampa - which saw Kohli and Rahul getting dismissed. At that stage, India needed 80 from 37 balls and it was virtually over. Or not?
A game which had plenty of twists and turns. Australia started slowly, but then Lynn, Maxwell and Stoinis were powering the hosts to a big total before the rain came bucketing down. That seemed to take the momentum away from the home side but when the revised DLS target was disclosed, 174 from 17 overs, Australia did seem to have the advantage.
A nervy win for Australia. The players are excited and overjoyed but coach Justin Langer looks stern in the dressing room. The Aussies nearly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. What a thriller in the end.

Marcus Stoinis To Kuldeep Yadav
FOUR! It will be a boundary but it does not matter. AUSTRALIA WIN BY 4 RUNS (DLS METHOD)! A short ball, in line of the stumps, Kuldeep backs away and pulls it over short fine leg for a boundary, just evading a leaping short fine leg.

Marcus Stoinis To Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Well, if the last ball is not a wide or a no ball, Australia have this in the bag. A short ball outside off, Kumar mistimes it in the air and even though deep mid-wicket cannot get to it, only a single is taken. 9 needed from the final ball.

Marcus Stoinis To Bhuvneshwar Kumar
WIDE. Technically, India are still in it. Bhuvi jumps down the track and Stoinis bowls it short and wide outside off. The batsman cannot reach and it is wided.
Kuldeep Yadav walks in next.

Marcus Stoinis To Dinesh Karthik OUT!
OUT! Back-to-back wickets for Stoinis and he is on a hat-trick! Wow. Read that again. Stoinis on a hat-trick. A length ball outside off, again pace taken off, Karthik looks to swat it over the off side but cannot quite clear the man in the deep. Third catch for Jason Behrendorff tonight. Excellent knock from Karthik though. 11 needed from 2 now.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is in next but he will be at the non-striker's end.

Marcus Stoinis To Krunal Pandya OUT!
OUT! Caught but this could be a blessing in disguise for India. 11 needed from 3 but it is Dinesh Karthik on strike. A full ball on middle, slower in pace, Pandya swings hard but mistimes it towards long on. Glenn Maxwell comes charging in, dives forward and takes a very good catch. Is pumped up with that. India will not mind it too much. Krunal was struggling. A boundary here and the visitors will be back in the game.

Marcus Stoinis To Krunal Pandya
WIDE NOT GIVEN! Is that a harsh call on the batsman? Stoinis smiles. Full toss wide outside off, Krunal reaches out to drive but misses. Replays show that the ball was outside the wide guidelines and Australia seem to have gotten away with that one. 11 needed from 4...

Marcus Stoinis To Krunal Pandya
A slower short ball outside off, Pandya mistimes his swing towards long on for a couple. 11 needed from 5 now.
Marcus Stoinis to continue. 13 off 6. This cannot get closer than this. Karthik has shown good form while Stoinis has taken a beating. Krunal will be on strike. Can MS bowl a few dots?

FOUR! Crucial boundary! Karthik walks across his stumps again and Tye bowls it full and wide outside off. No problems for Karthik as he clubs it wide of long on for a boundary!

Andrew Tye To Krunal Pandya
A good slower bouncer, down the leg side, Pandya is early into the pull and takes his eyes off the ball. Is hit on the helmet and the ball goes towards short fine leg. A leg bye taken.
Krunal Pandya walks into the pressure cooker situation. 18 needed off 9 balls.

Andrew Tye To Rishabh Pant OUT!
OUT! Caught! Against the run of play, Tye gets a wicket. Or rather, Pant has given it away. Absolutely no need for this shot. A low full toss, Rishabh looks to play the reverse paddle but spoons this high in the air. Jason Behrendorff barely has to move an inch as he takes it calmly at point. Big wicket for Australia. The quickfire stand is broken.

WIDE! 50-RUN STAND IS UP IN JUST 22 BALLS! A potentially match-winning partnership for India. What a counter-punch. It has come at a time when we felt that the game was done and dusted after Dhawan's dismissal. Once again, DK walks well across his stumps and the bowler bowls it wide outside off. 19 needed from 11 now.

150 UP FOR INDIA! 24 needed from 2 overs. India's game to lose from here with the Aussies struggling with the wet ball. Short and outside off, DK reaches out and flays it through point for a run. 11 from the over, 36 from the last 2!

Nothing much on the Free Hit. A length ball outside off, Rishabh is early into his slash and mistimes it towards long off for a run.

Marcus Stoinis To Rishabh Pant
NO BALL! The ball is wet and is slippery. India will not mind. Problems for Australia. A high full toss, trying to keep Pant in his crease as he comes down the track but is then left alone. It goes past his chest, towards the keeper.
