Lewis remanded to custody

Chris Lewis, who was charged with attempted drug smuggling after being caught with cocaine, has been remanded to custody by a court.

Former England cricketer Chris Lewis, who was charged with attempted drug smuggling after being caught with cocaine, has been remanded to custody by a court here.

The 40-year-old former all-rounder was caught with four kg cocaine worth about 200,000 pounds at the Gatwick Airport on Tuesday.

He appeared before magistrates in Crawley with Chad Theron Kirnon, the man arrested with him yesterday, according to a 'BBCSport' report.

Kirnon, a 26-year-old basketball player, was also remanded to custody on the same charge. The duo will appear at Mid Sussex Magistrates Court in Haywards Heath through a video link on December 17.

Lewis played 32 Tests and 53 one-day internationals for England and was currently working as a coach.

Lewis retired from county cricket in 2000 due to a hip injury after stints with Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Surrey.
