Kolkata: Australian pacer Brett Lee, recuperating from an injury in his left ankle, today said he expected to be back on the field within a month. "I am working on the injury and my recovery has been ahead of schedule. I hope to be back on the track next month," Lee told reporters here today. The fast bowler said he had a broken ankle since last year and had played against India during its recent tour Down Under despite the injury. The cricketer said recently he was operated upon and a part of the ankle bone removed. "I am very sure that I will be firing on all cylinders during the coming tour to India (beginning October)." Asked about the niggling injuries he has been facing, Lee said, "compared to the other fast bowlers, I am fitter." He also did not agree that his place had been threatened due to injury problems. "Don't forget that I was adjudged Australia's player of the year last year." On West Indian batsman Brian Lara breaking Aussie Matthew Hayden's highest individual Test innings score, Lee said, "wickets worldwide have now become flat. Lara had the record on his mind. If you see the time he has taken to score every 50 runs, you will see that it's much more than Hayden." Lee disclosed that apart from cricket, a major part of his time was spent on charity work. He ran a charity centre at Delhunty in Melbourne, rehabilitating depressed youth who tried to commit suicide. "This gives me lot of satisfaction." Lee welcomed Aussie spinner Stewart MacGill's decision to pull out of the coming tour to Zimbabwe later this month. "I compliment his decision...it is his personal decision...but on the flip side, the tour is on," he said. (PTI)
