Kumble, Ponting meet to ease tension

Perth:

It's time to forgive and move on, said Anil Kumble. In Perth just some time back, in a good will gesture, India have decided to drop all charges against Brad Hogg.

This was a short while after Anil Kumble and Ricky Ponting emerged from their reconciliation meeting with Ranjan Madugale, with broad smiles on their faces.

Both claimed they were pleased with the way things went. But there was no comment made about whether or not they would continue with the controversial agreement on taking the fielders word in case of a disputed catch.

India's goodwill gesture to drop the charges against Brad Hogg who had been accused of using abusive language towards MS Dhoni and Anil Kumble was welcomed by both Hogg himself who said it was much appreciated and by Mike Procter the match referee who felt this was a magnificent gesture and it would allow the game to go forward.

Both the captains aimed to ease out the tensions between the two teams, ahead of the third India-Australia in Perth, which begins on Wednesday.

"We had a very good meeting, I am happy with the way it went," said Kumble.

"We are determined to keep the spirit of the game intact," he added.

Ponting also seemed happy after the meeting. "I was also very pleased with the way the meeting went," Ponting said.

"Both captains realise the responsibility they have to the game. Both captains are satisfied with the way the meeting went," said Ranjan Madugalle.

Crucial meeting

Both captains have been at the eye of the storm, following the verdict against Harbhajan Singh. Kumble went as far as to say that only one team was playing in the spirit of cricket.

Those remarks after the Sydney Test and the media outcry against Ponting, including the calls for his sacking, have hogged the headlines all of last week.
