Anil Kumble is batting for a noble cause, as he lends a hand with the anti-polio campaign.As a special pulse polio round is organised in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh today, Kumble says the disease is posing a serious concern. Continued threat "We were complacent in thinking we had completely eradicated polio, but it has resurfaced. Till you get the last wicket, you haven't won the match," he said.Pointing out that 36 polio cases were reported in Karnataka and 21 in Andhra Pradesh last year, Kumble said it is very important get children immunised against the disease."As a father I will definitely take my son for his two drops on Sunday. He was immunised the very day he was born. We've been spreading the message that the drops are absolutely safe for new born babies," the cricketer said. Celeb endorsement Adding more punch to the campaign, Kumble also released similar messages from Kannada and Telugu superstars Rajkumar and Chiranjeevi.Organisations working against polio point out that the contribution of celebrities like Kumble is very important."I think we should give you (Kumble) the golden polio award for this very sticky wicket. I think you have shown to us that two things count, perseverance and consistency," said UNICEF's Leonard de Vos.One can now hope that Kumble's message goes out loud and cleara€"that everybody needs to get involved to bowl out this easily preventable virus for good.
