Wellington: Seasoned South African opener Gary Kirsten today bid a tearful goodbye to international cricket. Kirsten wiped his tears as he walked off the pitch during the third and final Test against New Zealand, which South Africa won by six wickets. He later said that it was very satisfying to win the Test match, the final one of his international career. Kirsten scored 76 in his final innings to leave him with figures of 7,289 runs from 101 matches at an enviable average of 45.27. He has scored 34 half-centuries and 21 centuries in his Test career.
