Durban:

Chasing 154, South Africa won by six wickets in against New Zealand in their Super Eights encounter at Durban on Wednesday.

Justin Kemp put up unbeaten 89(56b, 6X4, 6X6), which put South Africa right at the top as he thundered boundaries in and out of the stadium and also got him the Man of the Match award.

Sharing a 48-run partnership with Shaun Pollock from just 23 balls he took South Africa all the way and sealed the win by a six of Mark Gillespie's first ball of the last over.

Kemp, also shared a partnership with Mark Boucher of 65 runs off 64 balls and were going strong when Gillespie struck and got Boucher caught behind for 23 runs.

SA though went through a rough patch earlier when Graeme Smith(2) was taken out in the second over by Shane Bond as he got him caught on a thin outside edge by Brendon McCullum.

The next over by Gillespie saw the dismissal of AB de Villiers as he was also caught behind by McCullum for just one run.

Seamer Chris Martin got the big wicket of Hershelle Gibbs(19) with help from substitute fielder Jeetan Patel as he took his catch at deep square leg with the sun right in his eyes.

Morkel Magic

An outstanding bowling effort by Morne Morkel (4-1-16-4) restricted New Zealand to 153 for eight after being put in to bat by South Africa.

New Zealand were strolling at 68 without loss when Morne Morkel got into the act in the 8th over to upset their flourishing batting. New Zealand lost the plot from then on as South Africa applied the squeeze.

Crag McMillan, with his unbeaten 48-run cameo off 25 balls helped the Kiwis reach a respectable total.

Openers Brendon McCullum and Lou Vincent got New Zealand off to a rapid start scoring at an average of more than 8 and brought up the 50-run partnership in just six overs.

McCullum was the more aggressive of the duo as he cracked Shaun Pollock for two powerful sixes early on. He scored 38 off 26 deliveries before Morne Morne's magic over in which he struck twice to send back the McCullum and Ross Taylor (1) to halt the Kiwi charge.

It was not long before Johan van der Wath uprooted Vincent for 32 in the 10th over to leave the kiwis at a precarious 73 for three.

A middle order surge by Jacob Oram and Crag McMillan who notched a 41-run partnership scoring at a brisk pace steadied New Zealand after the loss of some quick wickets.

Morne Morkel again came to South Africa's rescue as he removed Oram (15) and debutant Nathan McCullum for a duck to peg back a flourishing Kiwi score.

South Africa have brought in Andre Nel for Makhaya Ntini who is unwell.

Nathan McCullum, brother of Brendon, makes his debut for New Zealand. Nathan McCullum is the allrounder from Otago who bowls offspin.
