Former match referee and New Zealand captain John Reid has been quoted as saying that Gavaskar's article was a shocker.

Melbourne:

Sunil Gavaskar hasn't made himself very popular with former cricketers for implying in his newspaper column that white match referees are against brown players.

Former match referee and New Zealand captain John Reid has been quoted as saying that Gavaskar's article was a shocker and that he should have taken a more neutral view given that he is the chairman of the ICC cricket committee which decides on the appointment of umpires and match referees.

Former South African great Barry Richards has also been critical of the former India captain. Richards said Gavaskar's comments on racism are fragmenting the world of cricket.
